Buy In
When
you prepare to buy in to a limit poker game there are
a few things you need to consider. First, what type of
player are you? Second, what type of poker game is
this? Depending on whether you, or the game, is
particularly loose you may need to add a few dollars
onto your buy in amount to make up for the increased
hands you’ll play. For the most part, the accepted
amount to buy in to a limit game is between 50 and 70
times the ante, or small bet. This is well above the
10 times ante or small bet that most card rooms
require as the minimum buy in. The reason my figure is
so high and theirs is so low is because I care whether
or not you win. Card rooms only care that you have
enough money to play in a hand and pay the rake.
Here’s an example: In a $2/4 Limit Hold’em game the
card room will likely let you sit down with $20. This
is the worst thing you can do. In order to be
comfortable you should sit in this game with between
$100 and $140 or 50 to 70 times the $2 small bet.
