Tips for Playing Online Poker

Playing poker online is basically the same experience as playing poker in a physical card room with a few minor exceptions. This article will give you some of the basic tips and pointers to help you start playing poker online for real money. Before choosing a site to play poker with, browse our online poker reviews. This will give you a good idea of which sites will best fit your playing needs.

Once you've chosen an online poker site that offers the features you're looking for, you will (inOnline Poker Tips most cases) be prompted to download the software required for playing. If this is the case, simply select the "download now" option from the poker site you've chosen and the prompts will guide you through the process. For players who would prefer not to download software, there are Java based games available that do not require a download. There are several poker sites that offer the no download option, the best example of a Java based site we've found is Poker Room. For the most part, Java based play will be less fluid and the graphics will not be as good.  For these reasons, we would highly recommend downloadable software if you are planning to play often.

Once you've installed the poker software, you'll be asked to register or sign up. If you are planning to only play for fun you can get by with giving only basic information. If you do have plans to play poker for real money, be sure to give accurate detailed information when registering. This is the information that will be used to issue your payouts. It is in your best interest to give current honest information.  If you've chosen a recommended poker site, they have been proven to value their customers and will not abuse your email or personal information.

Once you've registered you will be able to play for free or be given the option to deposit and play poker for real. It is always a good idea to play for free first, no matter your skill level. This gives you the chance to get the feel for the game play and to get used to how the software functions. Once you're comfortable with the poker site’s free games you can move to real money.  You can then focus your energy on playing the game, and not locating the "bet" or "fold" functions.
