Party
and Learn with Bodog!
By
Barbara FeinerRemember
the old TV commercial where the man carrying the jar
of peanut butter bumps into the guy holding the
chocolate bar? As they collide, their tasty
possessions blend into an American confectionary
classic: the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.
Think
of Calvin Ayre as the merge-conscious mastermind of
the poker and sports marketing worlds, cooking up his
own all-in variation of the Reese’s encounter.
Founder and CEO of the Bodog
Entertainment Group and a pioneer in online
gaming, Ayre is the brains behind Bodog
Poker, one of the premier online poker sites. He
will host the second Bodog.com
Poker & Sports Marketing Conference in
July—one of the few events in the country to feature
exhibits, educational presentations and events geared
toward today’s poker enthusiasts
Set
for July 6–7 at the Mandalay
Bay
Convention Center
in
Las Vegas
, the conference will showcase several well-known
speakers on hot gaming topics. Brian Balsbaugh,
president of Poker
Royalty.com, will explore how sponsorship
opportunities with professional players have had an
impact on the online poker community. Attorney and Card
Player Magazine writer Allyn Jaffery Shulman will
discuss legal issues that affect online poker in the United States. Other speakers (topics to be announced) include
Joseph Kelly, coeditor-in-chief of the Gaming
Law Review and a professor of business law at the
State University of New York at Buffalo; Oscar Nieboer,
managing director of Virgin
Games; Marc Lawrence, publisher of Playbook
Magazine; and Rob Gillespie, a senior member of
the Bodog management team.
The
private Bodog
Party, with an open bar and food, will be held on
the first night of the conference at the Rain
Nightclub in the Palms
Hotel, with transportation provided to and from
Mandalay Bay.
“Last
year's conference was a spectacular affair,” says
Ayre, “and with the current rise in poker, we felt
that it was imperative to not only incorporate poker
into the conference, but bring in former World
Series of Poker Tournament Director Matt Savage.
Of course, it would not be a Bodog.com sponsored event
without a fantastic party, beautiful women and tons of
entertainment to make for a wild night in
Las Vegas
.
“We
are all very excited to bring this event back to
Las Vegas
,” he adds, “and know that this will be the single
event that everyone involved in online gambling,
casino and poker rooms should attend. We have a number
of big surprises planned for this year, but you will
have to be there to experience it all.”
Conference
registration is now underway. A full conference pass
provides access to all educational
sessions, the
exhibit
hall and the Bodog Party. If you take advantage of early-bird
registration and sign up before May 30, the rate
is $495. After May 30, the price increases to $595.
(If you need to cancel, you will receive a full refund
if Bodog receives your formal cancellation before June
1 and a 50% refund from June 2 to 22. There are no
refunds after June 22.)
If
you haven’t tried Bodog’s Online
Poker Room, now’s the time to check it out. The
site has just launched a $100,000
Guaranteed Poker Tournament that will pay out
$100,000 every week—regardless of how many players
compete. Qualifying tournaments will be held at least
twice a day, with a Sunday final event.
There
are several ways to enter:
·
A
direct buy-in with tournament credits or cash ($109).
·
Win
by qualifying in a daily “Cheap Seat” or
“Semi-Final” online tournament.
“Our
players especially enjoy the thrill of competing in
the Sunday-afternoon $100,000 finals,” says Ayre,
who will be awarding a hefty $1.5 million a month.
